The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) has been included among the top 400 universities in the world in the field of life sciences –which includes agricultural and forestry sciences, biology, veterinary science and sports science– in the latest edition of the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking by subject, which was made public this afternoon.
Thus, the institution currently directed by José E. Capilla improves the results it obtained in the previous edition (401-500) and ranks now as the best Spanish polytechnic university –tied with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya– and the best university in the Valencian Community –tied with the Universitat of València– in this field.
To determine its ranking, THE takes into account 5 indicators: learning environment, research (volume, revenue and reputation), influence (citations), international perspective and innovation.
To this recognition by THE, which considers the UPV as the Spanish university with the greatest economic and social impact, we can add recognition by all of the other most prestigious international university rankings.
Thus, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU, popularly known as the Shanghai Ranking), places the UPV as the best polytechnic in Spain, and includes it, for the 17th consecutive year, among the 500 best universities in the world.
Additionally, last June the QS World University Rankings included the UPV in the world's top 400 (371st), and ranked it as the best university in the Valencian Community as well.
