Introduction

The main objective of the Master's is to provide future teachers with specialised training that enables them to exercise teaching in Compulsory Secondary Education, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training.

Objectives

The general objectives are:

  • Train in the necessary scientific knowledge of a psycho-pedagogical and didactic nature of the teaching in which they must demonstrate full professional competence.
  • Complete the disciplinary training according to the various specialities in which the master is structured.
  • Train the future teacher in the necessary tools for adequate teaching innovation.
  • Initiate the student in educational research as the basis of their professional development.
  • Acquire a first experience in the practice of the teaching profession through an internship.

Career opportunities

Qualifies for the exercise of the teacher profession in compulsory secondary education and baccalaureate, vocational training, and language teaching.

Reference and related degrees:

The professional nature of this degree and its regulations make necessary a connection between the degree taken by the student and the chosen speciality, which means that there may be degrees that allow direct access with preferential priority to each speciality, others that will enable direct access but with lower priority and, finally, qualifications that do not allow direct access to the speciality.

Based on the above, the following levels of prioritisation of qualifications are established for access to each of the specialities of the Master's Degree in Secondary Education at the Universitat Politècnica de València:

  • Level of Priority 1: Degrees that enable direct and preferential access to each speciality.
  • Level of Priority 2: Degrees allowing direct access to each specialisation only if the supply exceeds the demand for the preferred degrees.
  • Level of Priority 3: Qualifications that allow access to each speciality.

The degrees at each priority level for each speciality of the master's degree are as follows:

SPECIALITY IN ECONOMICS:

  • Priority 1: Business Administration and Management / Economics / Finance and Accounting / Tourism / Industrial Organisation Engineering / Public Administration / Data Science / Transport and Logistics Management.
  • Priority 2: Commerce and Marketing / Statistics / Audiovisual Communication / Any Engineering and Architecture degree.
  • Priority 3: Any other degree in the field of social sciences with an entrance examination.

SPECIALITY IN PHYSICS/CHEMISTRY:

  • Priority 1: Physics / Chemistry / Any Engineering degree.
  • Priority 2: Pharmacy / Food Science and Technology / Marine Sciences / Environmental Sciences / Geology / Any other science degree.
  • Priority 3: Any other degree in the field of science with an entrance examination.

SPECIALITY IN MATHEMATICS:

  • Priority 1: Mathematics / Data Science / Statistics / Physics / Any Engineering and Architecture degree.
  • Priority 2: Optics and Optometry.
  • Priority 3: Any other degree in the field of science with an entrance examination.

SPECIALITY IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS (VOCATIONAL TRAINING AREA):

  • Priority 1: Informatics Engineering /Electronic Engineering /Telecommunication Engineering (all types).
  • Priority 2: Data Science/Interactive Technologies/Digital Technology and Multimedia/Any Engineering and Architecture degree.

Master's structure

  • General Module: 16 ECTS
    • Learning and personality development.
    • Educational processes and contexts.
    • Society, family, and education
  • Specific Module: 28 ECTS
    • Learning and teaching of the specific subject.
    • Complements for disciplinary training.
    • Teaching innovation and initiation to educational research in the classroom.
  • Internships in secondary schools: 10 ECTS
  • Master's thesis: 6 ECTS

  • Specialization in Mathematics.
  • Specialty in Physics and Chemistry.
  • Specialization in Economics.
  • Specialization in Technology and Computer Science.

Admission criteria

In accordance with the pre-registration and admission regulations for Master's degrees, the following criteria will be used: academic record (50%), correspondence of competencies of the access degree with the reference degree (40%) and the curriculum vitae (10%).

The professional nature of this degree and its regulations make a connection between the degree taken by the student and the chosen speciality necessary, from which there may be degrees that allow direct access and with priority to each speciality.

Face-to-face/online (%)

60% of attendance and 40% online.

Organisation

The teaching coordination in the title is defined by the regulations of the Academic Regime and Evaluation of Students of the UPV, which establishes that each official title of the UPV must carry the following figures:

  • Academic Director of the Degree: Tenured or full-time lecturer who teaches in the title and has a positive assessment of at least two teaching sections.
  • Academic Committee of the Title: Formed by the director of the centre, the academic director of the title, the head of studies, the head of the administrative services of the centre, the technician of academic management of the centre, two students and five lectures who teach in the title, from different departments with teaching in it and that have, at least, a positively valued teaching section.
