Introduction

Civil engineering provides sustainable solutions for integrating infrastructures within the environment and the society. Urban planning and their utilities, railway and highway network design, coastal engineering, risk assessment of floods and earthquakes, design and construction of bridges, tunnels, dams and ports or the integrated management of projects are the most common civil engineering activities.

The Master's Degree in Civil Engineering qualifies for practising the regulated profession of Civil Engineer. Our Master's Degree in Civil Engineering graduates have reached for years a training highly appreciated by society, combining technical rigour with the development of creativity, interdisciplinarity and respect for the environment.

The Master's Degree in Civil Engineering comprises 120 ECTS during 2 academic years, covering courses of scientific extension, the specific technologies of Civil Engineering and specialisation training in one of the following areas: extension of scientific training; structural and geotechnical engineering; hydraulic and environmental engineering; transport and territorial engineering; management, conservation and exploitation.

Program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the General Criteria and the Civil and Similarly Named Engineering Program Criteria.

Program certified by the EUR-ACE Engineering label awarded by the European Network for the Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE).

Objectives

The Master's Degree in Civil Engineering qualifies students for the regulated profession of Civil Engineering. Therefore, the Curriculum complies with Order CIN/309/2009 of 9 February, which establishes the requirements for the verification of official university degrees that qualify students to practice the profession of Civil Engineer.

The competencies of Civil Engineers are, in general, consultancy, analysis, design, calculation, project, planning, direction, management, construction, maintenance, conservation and operation in the fields of civil engineering, infrastructures and the services they provide, hydraulic and energy resources, building, construction and structures, town and country planning, ports and coasts, transport and its infrastructures, as well as the environmental aspects related to these fields.

Admission criteria

Access to the master's degree is open to any graduate of a degree that qualifies them for the regulated profession of Technical Engineer in Public Works, verified in accordance with order CIN/307/2009. The reference degree for access to the master's degree is the Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de València.

When, according to what is stipulated in the 4.2.3) of section 4.2 of the annexe of the CIN/309/2009 order, training complements have to be defined, these will be composed in all cases by courses belonging to this reference degree. These training complements must guarantee the acquisition of the competencies in the terms established in the aforementioned cases 4.2.1) or 4.2.2.2) of section 4.2 of the annexe to order CIN/309/2009.
